Still Haulin’!

I realize I’ve not posted much since we got the new bike! Well- here’s a photo of what the kids think so far.  :) on our way home the other night, a person walking on the sidewalk next to the Dearborn protected lane was excited to get a picture of the bike-they’d seem it on Kickstarter.

We’re using the bike quite a bit these last two weeks- and there has been a lot of napping going on.  Also:

Everything- everything! Is on the bike. Yay!

Major haul- TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Nordstrom Rack, and groceries from Target. What was I thinking??

It hauls a LOT.  :)

Battle of the Bike Lane Barriers… which do you like??

Here in Chicago, we see primarily a painted buffer, the skinny bollards, or parked cars.  I like the parked cars best, though they still sometimes mosey on over to the bike lanes…

But I wonder if there isn’t some issue with having the lane be completely contained, like the ones with a curb or planters?  I know we often swerve around potholes and “Randolph Lake” on the Dearborn bike lane, so there’d have to be a decent amount of space within for people to avoid whatever obstacles, because they couldn’t just merge into traffic.  Although- that’s kind of the point of a protected lane.

Thinking out loud… obviously I’m not the only one who hasn’t figured this out!  The “Turtle Bumps” might be something I’d like to see- and the planters.  What do you think?

Oh hey… another awesomely FULL bike rack!

My doctor said it: riding a bike is good for your health!

I was at the doctor’s office a few days ago, and she was glad to see my bike helmet.  She said it looked like my Vitamin D levels should be good (and yes, I’ve been wearing sunblock!) and that I looked “fit.”  Still working on the fit part, though I do feel strong it’s not like the fat has melted off.  Anyhow- look at this beautiful bike rack.  Not full, but a good showing.  There were a few racks in the “U” shape across the street half full, but still, that’s a nice showing for Northwestern.  I’d say there was only room for 3 or 4 more bikes.  Nice job, Chi!
